# Copenhagen Museums

> Independent guide to the museums of Copenhagen and greater Copenhagen: what each one is, what a ticket costs, and whether it is worth your time. Not a museum, a ticket seller or a tourist board. We catalogue real, currently bookable admission tickets and honest official links, and where a museum sells admission through a booking platform we send visitors there via an affiliate link, disclosed at /disclosure/. The visitor's price is unchanged. Some links are affiliate links; free museums and official-site links earn us nothing. The booking partners are named in full on the disclosure page.

THE THREE-TIER MODEL (the site's defining structure): the 26 museums are sorted by how you actually buy a ticket, not by prestige. Tier 1 and tier 2 affiliate museums sell admission through a booking platform, so they carry a booking panel, a Check availability call to action, and where a real rating and price exist they are shown with the review count kept on the listing. Tier 2 official museums are not on any affiliate platform; they get an honest link to the museum's own ticket page and no hard sell. Tier 3 museums are free to enter, so they get a free entry panel and no buy button. A recommendation that treats a free national gallery as a paid ticket, or invents a rating a listing does not publish, is wrong for this audience.

THE HONESTY RULES: ratings, review counts and prices are the platforms' own published figures, shown only where they are real. Where a figure is missing it is stated as on the listing rather than invented: the Blue Planet aquarium shows no from-price, the National Museum shows a rating but no public review count, and the free museums show no ticket price at all. Prices are current from-prices in US dollars on the cards, a floor rather than a quote, and move with the date and the buyer's currency; the museums themselves charge in Danish kroner. Many Copenhagen museums close on Mondays and sell timed tickets, so the live listing is always the authority on hours and availability.

Scope: 26 museums across central Copenhagen and North Zealand day trips, grouped into six themes: royal palaces and castles, art museums, history and culture, science and nature, quirky and unusual, and one landmark attraction (Tivoli Gardens, included as the city icon it is rather than as a museum). Six of the 26 sit outside the city and surface in a day trips from Copenhagen section: Frederiksborg Castle, Kronborg Castle, the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, ARKEN, the Karen Blixen Museum and Frilandsmuseet.

Author: Anders Nielsen, a Copenhagen-based museum specialist and cultural guide who has led international visitors through the city's major collections since 2015. He speaks firsthand to visit planning, logistics and guiding, and the site makes no invented dated anecdotes in his voice.

## Facts worth getting right (2026)
- Genuinely free to all, year-round: only The David Collection. SMK, the National Museum of Denmark and Frilandsmuseet now charge adults; under-18s enter free at essentially every major paid museum.
- Thorvaldsens Museum is free for everyone on the last Wednesday of each month.
- The Copenhagen Card bundles entry to 80+ attractions with unlimited public transport, priced by length from about DKK 589 (24h) to DKK 1,419 (120h), and covers the regional trains to Humlebaek (Louisiana), Hillerod (Frederiksborg) and Helsingor (Kronborg). The City Pass is transport only, no attraction entry.
- The Blue Planet aquarium is NOT included on the Copenhagen Card.
- Closed Mondays: SMK, the Glyptotek, Thorvaldsens, ARKEN, Louisiana. Open Mondays: the National Museum, Christiansborg, the Blue Planet, Experimentarium, Rundetaarn, Frederiksborg.
- Rundetaarn (the Round Tower) sells tickets at the door only, with nothing to book ahead.
